The main requirements of PUWER98 (see LEGISLATION) are to ensure that work equipment is suitable for it's purpose, maintained , inspected when appropriate to ensure that it has been correctly installed and remains in a serviceable condition. Under LOLER the required thorough examination regime has become more flexible and can be provided on a risk assessment basis, if the user opts for fixed period, the maximum is shown in the Summary of Inspection section
All equipment must be periodically thoroughly examined by a competent person and a record kept of the result. Any equipment found unfit for a further period of service should be withdrawn. In addition to this formal examination, it is good practise to check the equipment before use.
Dale can help you to comply by arranging to periodically provide a LEEA trained engineer to carry out the formal thorough examination and should you require, arrange in use inspection training for your own personnel (see TRAINING).
Some equipment also requires regular preventative maintenance (see MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS). Such maintenance not only prolongs the useful life of the equipment but also ensures that it is always fit for service. When repairs affect the load bearing parts of the equipment should be thoroughly examined and if necessary retested before further use. Dale's can provide a combination thorough examination and maintenance programme ensuring your equipment is kept up to standard, and achieves a substantial saving on duplication, leaving you and your personnel to concentrate on your core business.
